The Parliament has approved the decree reintroducing four national holidays, thus changing the Labour Code. br>br>The approved changes come into force the day after the publication of the act.

Thus, the Portuguese can now again have the following national holidays:
- Corpus Christi, which in 2016 will fall on the 26th of May;
- Proclamation of the Republic on the 5th of October;
- All Saints' Day, on the 1st of November;
- Restoration of Independence, on the 1st of December.

​With this redesign, the statutory holidays provided for in the Labour Code are now 13:

January 1st, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, April 25th, May 1st, Corpus Christi, June 10th, August 15th, October 5th, November 1st, and December 1st, 8th and 25th. br>Through specific legislation, certain statutory holidays can be observed on Monday of the following week.
