Last Tuesday, a meeting was held between the Minister of Communications of Brazil, André Figueiredo, the ambassador of Angola in Brazil, Nelson Cosme, and the CEO of Angola Cables, António Nunes.

André Figueiredo said that "Brazil presents itself the point of the communication point of the South-American continent and with the connexion with the African continent, we can reduce the delay in the transmission of information and increase data security."

The African proposal intends to enable the construction of two optical fiber cables crossing the Atlantic, one that will link Brazil to Angola, and another for interconnection in Brazil.

The first stage of the project will be the construction of the link between Luanda and Fortaleza, in northeastern Brazil. The second stage must connect the cable of Fortaleza with another one existing in the city of Santos, in the state of São Paulo and that already reaches Miami, in the United States.

Last year, Angola Cables signed an agreement with the city council of Fortaleza for the construction of a data center and to make the anchoring of submarine cables.

On that occasion, the representative of the Angolan government, Aristides Safeca, pointed out that the performance of Angola Cables in Brazil is a part of the Luanda government's strategy of expansion and modernization of the telecommunications system. The Angolan minister also mentioned other joint projects between Brazil and Angola in the field of satellite communications.

In addition to the connection with Angola, Brazil also has another fiber optics project to Europe, with expected date for the start of operations in 2017. In this project, the cable will depart from Santos, in São Paulo, to the Lisbon region.
